DevLog 2: Social Media Marketing

Hey everyone!

One extremely important aspect when releasing a game is marketing. So far my attempts haven't been too effective but this is something I hope to improve.  Here is my observation of different marketing channels and if you have any advice for me about how to improve it further, then please let me know.

1. Twitter - allows to reach other game developers through #screenshotsaturday #gamedev #indiedev hashtags, but not really the actual players. I currently have 340 followers and post gifs frequently, but that has quite low effectiveness.  My twitter account

2. Facebook - posting to your own page seems pointless. I have 140 followers from the previous game and most of them are bots. Facebook also doesn't show my posts (6 people reached is really bad), so I don't post regularly. I've also tried to post to Indie Game Promo and it reaches a bit more people, but nothing special. Are there any other groups where people can share their games? Our Facebook Page

3. Reddit - I have had some success, but I really don't want to get banned and thus I avoid posting promotional stuff regularly. Do you know any good subreddits that don't mind spamming promotional stuff?

4. Itch.io - I started experimenting with DevLogs, but even though I think the game demo is quite good, it doesn't seem to direct much traffic to my game, which is currently about 5 views per day. I will definitely update you about it in the future.  The Itch.io main page

5. Youtube - I have my own channel where I'm currently making more technical videos. And some of them have brought me natural views from Godot developers (328 followers). But these kinds of videos are really time-consuming to make, about 8 hours for each. I'm thinking about changing my format and trying short in the future.  Youtube channel

6. Instagram - I have tried it in the past. It was a bit similar to Twitter in the sense that it only shows you based on how many subscribers you have and those are hard to get. In addition, it doesn't provide an easy way to direct the users to the Steam page and because it is a mobile platform I don't think it is good for a PC game.

7. Discord - the main way to reach a new audience is to pretty much join other discord channels and start posting. Joining other games discords and starting posting about your game seems like a sh***y thing to do. Do you know discord channels where such behaviour is accepted and effective? I also have some ideas to turn my own Discord into a fun game-like Raw Fury publisher has successfully done. Our discord channel

8. TickTock and other new platforms - I haven't tried them. It would be great if you can share your experience.

That's all for today, stay awesome!
