DevLog 3: Game Scenarios

This week I figured out something that might seem obvious, but for me, it was a missing piece in the game design for a long time.
When I was developing the Blastronaut demo, there was always something missing, until I added the task list. However, I have always had a plan to give the player more freedom at some point and let them explore the game themselves. So if only the tutorial has the task list and it is optional then the custom game would be missing an important feature.

Luckily I came up with the scenario concept recently and I think it will solve this issue. The scenarios will work similarly to scenarios in the Factorio game where they have preconfigured story elements and goal. The tutorial will then just be one such scenario with its own task list and goal, but there can also be other more challenging scenarios. In addition, I hope it allows me to create challenge scenarios, where the players can compete to mine x amount of resources in a given timeframe or dig as deep as possible with a certain amount of fuel. These scenarios will also be editable by players through the in-game editor. It would be really amazing if they will start making their own challenges and scenarios and share them with each other.

So now I can finally remove the tutorial checkbox from the new game menu and replace it with a nice colourful list of scenarios. Here is the wireframe about how I imagine it:
